Each year, the Canberra Model Shipwrights Society holds a model boat building course at Ginninderra College - usually with a relatively simple model which allows students to learn the relevant techniques which will allow them to contemplate more complex models. CMSS members and "gurus" help with the instruction and useful guidance for the student's particular interests. Four courses have been held to date and the students have produced some very good models even though, for many, this has been their first attempt.

The model boat for the next course in 2011 will be the “San Juan” felucca, which is an entry level kit by OcCre. The dates for this course have not been decided yet.
