Each year, the Canberra Model Shipwrights Society holds a model boat building course at Ginninderra College - usually with a relatively simple model which allows students to learn the relevant techniques which will allow them to contemplate more complex models. CMSS members and "gurus" help with the instruction and useful guidance for the student's particular interests. Four courses have been held to date and the students have produced some very good models even though, for many, this has been their first attempt.

The course for 2010 is expected to commence on 21st October this year, and the model boat will be the “San Juan” felucca, which is an entry level kit by OcCre.

Eden 2009 Model Ship Exhibition

The Eden Model Ship Exhibition is held every 3 years held in conjunction with the annual Eden Whale Festival. This year's exhibition was very successful in regards to organisation, visitor numbers and the quality exhibits. The exhibition featured a broad range of scale models of a very high standard from local and interstate modellers. There were also some outstanding scale model dioramas on show by local modeller Rod Henderson. Moreover, a good proportion of the exhibits were models of whaling and and fishing vessels, which are very relevant to the Eden district and thus of great interest to many of the local visitors. The exhibition included exhibitors from the ACT, NSW and Victoria.
